Mug Nest Coaster – Free Crochet Pattern
Grab the ad-free PDF version of the Mug Nest Coaster pattern in my Etsy shop or on Ravelry!
I’ve been wanting to design a coaster for sometime. One night, or shall I say morning, around 1 am to be exact. An idea popped into my head. And of course, I just had to make it right away. I’m so glad I did! I absolutely love how the mug Nest Coaster turned out.
When I shared the finished piece on Instagram, a lot of you said it looked like it was hugging my mug. Well, mug hug was already taken. To me it also reminded me of a nest for my mug. It nestles in there quite nicely. So the Mug Nest Coaster pattern was born.
The Mug Nest Coaster is perfect for any room of the house. It works up super fast. Before you know it, you’ll have more than you know what to do with! It also has a boho vibe, that I love. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to make a million more coasters!
The coaster uses two different types of yarn, with three varying styles. Each style has a Small and Large size.

Notes & Pattern:
The Mug Nest Coaster pattern is worked in the round, starting with a magic ring.
Ch 1 does not count as a st.
Pattern is written as such: Small(Large)
You will need to know how to work with double strands to make the larger bobbles in the worsted weight.
Bobble stitch:
*Yarn over, insert hook into stitch and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops on your hook rep * 3 more times. Now you should have 5 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all
5 loops on your hook.
Front Loop Only (Flo)
Normally, you insert your hook under both the loops that make up that top V shape. To work in the front loop only, insert your hook under only the specified loop instead. The front loop will the bottom of the v shape, closest to you. (see Flo Rnd below)

In the FLO round, what does “chain 1 in” mean?
Jessica
Hi Lily!
It just means to do your first Flo in the same sp you did the sl st, ch 1 in. I wanted to be sure that the first Flo was worked in that same st. Hope that helps!
Thanks!
Jessica

Adorable pattern! Easy and quick! Love my new coasters
Jessica
Thank you so much! I’m glad you love them! ❤️

Great pattern! I love that it is double-thick compared to others I’ve seen, which keeps the contents of the mug hot or cold a bit longer! The texture is awesome and wonderful to look at! Change the order of the stripes and bingo! Custom one for each member of the family that still all ‘match’ together at the table! You are so generous to share such a wonderful pattern for free! Thank you!
Jessica
Thank you so much for you kind words! I’m glad you love the pattern. ❤

Confused, about the number. They don’t add up for me. (Inc, SC 2 rep from * ), you are increasing from 18 to 24. My math says if you increasing. 2 in ea. You get 36 not 24 so, I need clarification as to what you are increasing and what you are not. Because the next line you do the same thing only the number goes up one so please 🙏
Jessica
Hi Mary!
Since you started with six sts in the magic ring. You’ll be increasing each round by six sts. Inc = two sc in same st. SC 2 = one SC in each of the next 2 sts. Then repeat those until the end. So basically, each (Inc, SC 2) is four sts total, done six times you’ll end up with 24 sts. I hope that helps!
Thanks!

Veronica
Hi. I love these coasters! I’m confused about what the three different styles are. I only see the single strand bobble and double strand bobble. What is the third style? And is the bobble in the double strand bobble just a little bit bigger than the single strand bobble?
Jessica
Hi Veronica! Sorry about the delayed response. The third one is just using the bulky weight yarn. The Bobble in the double strand is nearly twice as big. Thanks! Jessica
