This is my third year participating in the blanket square CAL hosted by Claire from BearRye. This year the theme was Love and Joy. During the holiday season hope and peace bring love and joy. The symbols for hope, love, peace, and joy are the star, heart, bird, and tree. I hope you love this square as much as I do and your holiday season is filled with hope, love, peace, and joy.

Each square for the CAL is 8″ x 8″. When you complete all squares you’ll have enough to seam together into a blanket.

Your square will measure 7” x 7” before border is added. Finished Measurements 8” x 8”

I added a 1” border around by adding 3 rows alternating between the 3 main colors.

To have a clean square with no floats, you’ll be carrying your yarn as you go.

Tapestry crochet is done by carrying the two colors of yarn used in a row, and using the indicated color for each stitch while crocheting around the secondary color.

Ch 1 doesn’t count as a St.

Change color in the top of the St with the color you’re changing to to complete the St.

Follow border instructions on page below.

Border:

Change to next color. Sc evenly around the edges of your square. I did 3 rows. To work the corners on the border:

Rnd 1:Sc 28 across the top. When you get to the corner, Ch 2, Sc 26 down the side (one Sc in the end of each row), Ch 2, Sc 28 across the bottom, Ch 2, Sc 26 up the other side, Ch 2, Change to next color when you Sl st to 1st Sc, Ch 1

Rnd 2:Sc 28, when you get to the corner, work 1 Sc into the Ch 2 Sp created in the previous rnd, Ch 2, work another Sc into the same Ch 2 Sp, continue to Sc all the way around working corners as instructed. Change to next color when you Sl st to 1st Sc, Ch 1

Rnd 3: Repeat Rnd 2

Fasten off, weave in ends.

Add more Rnds if needed to make your square 8” x 8”.
